Our office hosted a community meeting with representatives from the Department of Water Management on Thursday. During that meeting, crews provided an update that the pre-construction work on Lakewood, Wayne, and Magnolia will be finished by the end of next week. Once preconstruction is finished, they will repair the streets, parkways, and sidewalks.

Construction crews began to mobilize on Magnolia and Lakewood last week to begin pre-construction and corrective work in the area before transitioning to the sewer replacement. This means neighbors might begin to see more equipment and some excavation begin in the area. Crews may post "No Parking" signs in the impacted area as needed during work hours (generally 7 am to 4 pm). Crews will work to preserve as much parking as possible and will only post signs where crews are actively working; parking restrictions will follow the crews throughout the footprint of the project as work progresses.
Once corrective work has been completed in the footprint of the project area (which includes parts of the 48th Ward), crews will transition to the sewer main replacement. The sewer main replacement will take approximately 6-8 weeks to install in each section of the project footprint. They will work in phases in each area, only shifting to a new area after replacing a sewer main on a leg in the impacted area.
Once the sewer pipe has been installed, the street will be temporarily restored with a concrete trench until they are able to completely restore the street with new asphalt. ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps will be repaired or installed where needed, along with repairs to damaged parkways and sidewalks. The final restoration of the street will include milling the surfacing, placing new asphalt, and prepainting the street markings. The project will not be considered complete until damaged sidewalks, parkways, and streets have been repaired in all areas where work is planned.
Our office is hosting a community meeting with the Department of Water Management and the contractors on Thursday, March 2, at 6 pm in the community room at Caroline Hedger, 6400 N. Sheridan.

Our office is working with the contractor to schedule a community meeting for neighbors so they have an opportunity to understand better the scope and timeline of the project as well as ask questions. Please keep your eye on this space for information on that meeting as well as updates throughout the duration of the project.
